What is CPP Disability?

  • A monthly benefit from Service Canada for people with a severe and prolonged disability that prevents regular work.
  • Not means-tested — it’s based on what you’ve contributed to the Canada Pension Plan, not your savings or income.
  • Requires enough CPP contributions, generally in at least 4 of the last 6 years.
  • Worth up to roughly C$1,606.78 a month in 2024, plus C$294.12 a month per dependent child.

Check If You’re Likely to Qualify

A few quick questions about your health, work history, and CPP contributions -- no jargon, no medical terms. Takes about 3 minutes.

What CPP Disability Can Unlock

Provincial disability supplements

Many provinces and territories offer extra income or disability support once you’re approved for CPP-D.

Tax credits

CPP-D can support a Disability Tax Credit claim and other credits that reduce the tax you owe.

Extended health coverage

Some employer, provincial, or private extended health plans use CPP-D approval as evidence of disability status.
