Disability Living Allowance
This is a benefit to help pay for the cost of caring for children below the age of 16 who require more care than a child without a disability or who has restricted mobility, or both. We can advise you on which level of award we believe your child is eligible for.
Eligibility Examples
Under 16
Aged under 16 and requires additional care and support. A child needs more care than a non-disabled child of the same age.
Mobility as one example
Restricted mobility and requires assistance and or aids such as wheelchairs. DLA is about the care and support a child needs. It does not require a specific diagnosis. A child does not have to have a mobility issue in order to make an application. It is an example of one situation a child might have.
3 months or more
A child has required care and support for 3 months or more. Examples of this are a child with a physical disability or ADHD, Autism or other neuro divergance.
DLA Award
DLA is assessed in two parts;
Weekly Care Element - Low rate £28.70, Medium rate £72.65, High rate £108.55
Weekly Mobility Element - Low rate £28.70, High rate £75.75
